Meet The Chief

Chief Phyliss J. Anderson is the first female chief of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, sworn into office October 4, 2011and reelected to a second term on August 25, 2015. She has dedicated 30 years of her life to serving her Choctaw people and is passionate about creating new opportunities on the reservation for all tribal members - from the youngest child to our most revered elders.

Chief Anderson was born and raised in the Red Water Community on the Choctaw Indian Reservation. She shares the traditional values all tribal members hold important; the written and spoken Choctaw language, food, arts, crafts, respect for the elders, and support and development of our communities.

Under her leadership as Tribal Chief, she has restored financial credibility to the Tribe, brought respect back to the Office of the Chief, and created new confidence in the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. She takes great pride in this role and represents our Choctaw Tribe with great dignity and respect.
